“What does my treatment plan mean?”
“What are my options?”
It can sometimes feel difficult to understand and ask all the right questions during your examination. That is the reason we want to give you a quick summary of what treatments entail.
However, we want to make sure you understand every treatment that you consent to, and asking all your questions to our team is beneficial to your health.
What happens during a new patient examination?
We will be taking:
You will receive 2 detailed x-rays called bite wings included in the price of this examination. If extra or different x-rays are needed, your dentist will inform you why they are needed and if any extra costs will be added.
Please, make sure to inform your dentist when you are pregnant or any other reasons why x-rays cannot be taken.
We will perform an examination of:
What happens after the examination?
During your appointment, we will discuss the results of your examination. If any diagnosis require treatment, all the options with advice will be given to you so you have all the correct information to make the best decision for your health.
A quote will be made and given to you. This quote is called a treatment plan that will have to be signed, so we are sure you understand all the needed procedures and appointments.
When a treatment plan is extensive and sometimes multidisciplinary, we will need time to plan, calculate, and measure all the needed treatments. Further diagnostics might be needed. Do not worry, your dentist will explain this to you and give you a time frame to when the treatment plan can be ready.
Because healthcare is not an exact science, during the needed treatment, certain new issues might arise. In most cases we can predict these relatively accurately thanks to our experience. However, if anything would change, a complication arises, a new treatment plan will be needed, unfortunately.
We will do our best to make everything as predictable for you as possible as it is our mission to make you feel at ease in our practice.
What is a registered patient?
A patient is registered if they have been for an examination in the past 18 months.
What happens during a registered patient examination?
We will perform an examination of:
• Clinical check of your teeth.
• A BPE: Bleeding index from your gums, abbreviated from basic periodontal examination.
• TMJ-system checked: Included are the jaw joints and chewing muscles.
• Intra-Oral Soft tissues: We make sure to examine the risks of oral cancer, we investigate any lumps, ulcers, or lesions you might have in the mouth.
• Peri-oral skin and if needed facial skin check: Because we are so close to your facial skin and have regular contact with patients, we will be informing you if we see anything unusual on your skin around your mouth, including your lips.
Every registered patient is different and has different needs. Thanks to your previous regular examinations, we have a view of the type of mouth you have, we can cater the need for x-rays where needed and they will be taken only if needed. Your dentist will make you aware if they are and the additional cost.
What happens after the examination?
Very similarly to the new patient examination, during your appointment, we will discuss the results of your examination. If any diagnosis require treatment, all the options with advice will be given to you so you have all the correct information to make the best decision for your health.
A quote will be made and given to you. This quote is called a treatment plan that will have to be signed, so we are sure you understand all the needed procedures and appointments.
The same risks are present for registered patients as for new patients and deviations are possible during needed treatment plans. We will however try to predict and communicate potential risks as much as possible.
Any indirect treatments need the involvement of a dental lab.
This means we need to take impressions, send them to our associated dental laboratory, who we will closely work together with to make the treatment.
