A tooth endodontic treatment is commonly known as a tooth root canal treatment.
With a root canal treatment, the dentist aims to save a tooth by cleaning the tooth including the crown of the tooth and the nerve canals in the roots of the tooth. This is done by cleansing with irrigants and by shaping the canals until they become as free of bacteria as possible.
The root canal treatment is usually needed because the nerve and blood vessels of the tooth have been invaded by bacteria.
These microbes have caused infection and inflammation within the tooth. This process causes the tooth to die and become what your dentist might call: necrotic.
Another cause could be certain inflammation processes and trauma to the tooth.
